URGENT ACTION ALERT:  SHHH Mobile Phone Survey - Complete TODAY

Successful advocacy is often the result of teamwork.  Our successes here at TDI comes from working in collaboration with other consumer organizations striving toward the same goal.  Below is an ACTION ALERT from Self Help for the Hard of Hearing (SHHH) seeking information on how individuals with hearing aids and cochlear implants are using mobile phones, whether it is analog or digital.  IF you use hearing aids or cochlear implants, TDI encourages you to inform SHHH of your experience with mobile phones.  They will use this information at their meeting with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on September 12.  Please go to the website and fill out this survey TODAY.

URGENT: MOBILE PHONE SURVEY - please complete by September 9th

SHHH has just posted a survey on the SHHH website to find out if and how hearing aid and cochlear implants wearers are using mobile phones. Please fill out the survey no later than 9 a.m. September 10th so that SHHH may provide your input to the FCC.

On September 12th,  Brenda Battat, director of public policy for SHHH and member of the FCC Consumer/Disability Telecommunications Advisory Committee, will meet with staff in the FCC Wireless Bureau and the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, to push hard for solutions so that you can use digital wireless phones with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Your survey results will be given to the FCC at that meeting.

SHHH was a member of the HEAR-IT NOW Coalition that submitted a petition to the FCC on June 5, 1995, to revoke the exemption of wireless telephones from the Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) Act.  SHHH was subsequently a member of the Wireless Action Coalition (WAC) that requested the FCC to reopen the proceeding on digital wireless phones and hearing aid interference.  We believe the only way to achieve access to digital wireless phones for hearing aid and cochlear implant users is to lift this exemption. The URL for the survey is: www.shhh.org/survey/survey/93498675/default.cfm

SHHH is the largest consumer organization of people with hearing loss in the United States. Our mission is to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss through information, advocacy, and support. SHHH is committed to ensuring that people with hearing loss have full access to all telecommunications services and and products.  For more information about SHHH, please view the web site at http://www.shhh.org.
