FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE:
CAN LAUNCHES PROJECT
ACCESS,
SEEKING ACCESS STORIES RESULTING FROM SEPTEMBER 11
The Consumer Action Network (CAN)
announces Project Access, an effort to gather stories of how deaf and hard of
hearing people, family members and friends encountered access to information,
communications, travel or services as a result of the tragic events September
11, 2001.
"We are looking for stories of how access for and to deaf and hard of
hearing adults and children was provided and dealt with in the aftermath of
the attacks. From those stories, we want to identify systems and
programs that are effective and use them as a model for other systems and
programs. We also want to see where there was a failure to provide
access to and for
deaf and hard of hearing people, and analyze those situations to see what
could have been done to prevent those failures," stated Cheryl Heppner,
CAN Chair.
Those stories will be gathered and used to develop planning and proposals for
future access. Individuals and groups are encouraged to submit personal
stories and experiences to:
